The European Professional Women’s Network and Connecting Women are organising the next:
‘EPWN/CW Hague Xmas Dinner’
Tuesday 20 December 2011, 19:00-22:00
Van der Valk Pier Scheveningen
2586 JK Den Haag
Dear ladies,
In order to celebrate the festive season, we’ll be doing something different this month:– instead of a Borrel, we are organising an EPWN/CW Hague Xmas Dinner!
We are very much looking forward to welcoming you to this EPWN/CW Hague Xmas Dinner, which shall take place on Tuesday 20 December 2011, from 19:00-22:00 at Van der Valk Pier Scheveningen!
This Xmas Dinner also provides a great opportunity for meeting other women, networking and exchanging views about work/life in The Netherlands. And remember that everybody is welcome, membership is not required, nor is celebrating Xmas required.
For this Dinner we have managed to secure a special rate of €45,– per person, which includes a welcome drink, a 3-course dinner and unlimited drink between 19:00-22:00.
Registration
Please make sure you register your attendance (either as a member or as a guest) above. Alternatively, you can send an email to Erika at erika@bothassistanceandsupport.nl. Please also don’t forget to de-register if you are not able to make it after all!
We need to confirm the number of attendees with the restaurant 24 hours in advance. When pre-registered people do not show up, this puts us in a difficult position, as the restaurant has prepared food for more people.
We hope many of you will join us for our EPWN/CW Hague Xmas Dinner and we are looking forward to seeing you all on the 20th!
Warm regards,
Karin Bosscher, Erika Both & Anna Farrenkopf

‘EPWN/CW Hague Borrel’
Tuesday 21 June 2011, 19:00-22:00
back at ‘Braque’ in The Hague!
Dear ladies,
Our next EPWN/CW Hague Borrel will be the last opportunity before the Summer Break to
meet other women and exchanging views about work/life in The Netherlands. And remember
that everybody, expats, repats or internationally minded locals are welcome, membership is
not required.
For this upcoming EPWN/CW Hague Borrel, which will take place on Tuesday 21 June
2011 from 19:00-21:00, we will return again to Braque (www.brasseriebraque.nl) in
Scheveningen Harbour. ‘Braque’ is what used to be restaurant ‘Raar’, the place where the
EPWN Hague Borrel first started. They have shown us great hospitality so far and we even
have our very own, very charming bartender Bart! Braque is located on the OTHER side of the
Scheveningen Harbour. The address is Dr. Lelykade 33-37, Den Haag, and as always, we will
have a table at our disposal for your business cards in order to promote your own business.
Brasserie Braque
Brasserie Braque is a French restaurant, situated on the 2nd harbour in Scheveningen. The heated terrace has a great view of the harbour. The restaurant offers a great location for drinks, dinner and is on Sundays also open for lunch. The kitchen team always works with day fresh products to create great fish, meat and vegetarian dishes. You can even buy produce at the delicatessen department.
And … Braque has made us a special offer – we will get 3 (!!) drinks for our pre-paid €12,50 plus canapes!
Cost and registration
The cost of the Borrel is €12,50 per person. This will entitle you to three (!!) drinks plus nibbles and tapas. You are asked to pay this upon arrival, for which you will receive a restaurant coin to redeem your drinks at the bar. Additional drinks are at your own cost –
the bar will close at 22:00.
Please make sure you register your attendance (either as a member or as a guest) via the EPWN website http://europeanpwn-amsterdam.net/events/borrel-in-den-haag-june-2011. Alternatively, you can send an email to Erika at erika@bothassistanceandsupport.nl. For more information on the event, see www.connectingwomen.nl.
Please also don’t forget to de-register if you are not able to make this event! We need to confirm the number of attendees with the restaurant 24 hours in advance. When pre-registered people do not show up, this puts us in a difficult position, as the restaurant has prepared food for more people.
Directions to the venue
This location, Braque (formerly ‘Raar’) is located on the other side of the Scheveningen harbour, next to restaurant Waterproef; the address is Dr. Lelykade 33-37, Den Haag. For more details about the venue, go to their website www.brasseriebraque.nl. There is plenty of free parking.

What do we really know and understand about global warming?
Oceangrapher Anna Farrenkopf will help us better understand what researchers know and help us put it into perspective. She’ll share wisdom from the 2009 Copenhagen Climate Conference. This talk will be presented as part of the Connecting Women speakers series in Den Haag.
Do come to this presentation with all your questions about the weather, trading carbon credits or whether there’ll be too much or not enough water in 2020.
Time : 19:00 – 22.00
Address: Christus Triumfatorkerk, Juliana van Stolberglaan 154, Den Haag 2595 CL
Dr. Farrenkopf earned her Ph.D. in Chemical Oceanography funded in part under the auspices of the Joint Global Ocean Flux Study (JGOFS) – Initiative, she is a past-participant in the Hawaii Ocean Timeseries, and co-author of Bermuda Ocean Times Series research.
This talk was originally inspired by sharing a plenary session at a local high school Environmental Science Career Fair in Portland Oregon with local TV weatherman Matt Zafino. Variations of this talk have also been presented in Wilsonville Elementary school to an audience of eight year olds and at the July 2009 borrel in the Hague.
Anna was born on a small island north of Boston Massachusetts in the town of Rockport. She grew up tending to both award winning flower gardens and racing sailboats on the ocean. After completing her chemistry degree, beginning a Ph.D. in oceanography seemed a logical way to pursue applied environmental chemistry. Early during her masters work Anna was invited to participate in the Netherlands Indian Ocean Program (NIOP) sponsored by SOZ through Rijksuniversiteit Utrecht (present day NWO and Utrecht University).
Her award winning research enabled many world wide collaboration opportunities in exotic tropical and sub-tropical locations such as the Seychelles, Hawaii, Oman, Kenya, Pakistan and beyond. For her post-doctoral work Anna travelled to Portland Oregon where she worked with numerical modelers to validate their 3 D simulations with real-time chemical sensor data. Anna came to the Netherlands in 2002 to innovate instrumentation for environmental research.
Of course we know her as the EuropeanPWN-Amsterdam borrel coordinator who often finds herself in the exotic locations in and around Scheveningen Harbor! Anna’s passion beyond networking with business women is to inspire and encourage girls and boys in the subjects of science, engineering and mathematics.
