The European Professional Women’s Network and Connecting Women are organising the next:

‘EPWN/CW Hague Borrel’
Tuesday 17 April 2012, 19:00-22:00

at ‘Rootz at the Harbour’ in Scheveningen Harbour

Dear ladies,

We are very excited to invite you to our next EPWN/CW Hague Borrel, which will take place at restaurant Rootz at the Harbour, on Tuesday 17 April 2012 from 19:00-22:00. Yet another great opportunity for meeting other women, networking and exchanging views about work/life in The Netherlands.

It feels like we’ve done “full circle”, as the EPWN Hague Borrel originally started at ‘Raar’. When this location changed into ‘Braque’ we frequented it again quite a lot for the EPWN/CW Hague Borrel. And, now that it’s changed again into ‘Rootz at the Harbour’ we will take the next EPWN/CW Hague Borrel again to this, by now very familiar location

Rootz at the Harbour is located in the Scheveningen Harbour. The warm, authentic atmosphere offers food from their Belgian kitchen, combined with great beer and wine. The address is Dr. Lelykade 33-37, Den Haag. For more information, please check out their website www.rootzharbour.nl.

Please note that we have booked the room upstairs and, as always, a table at our disposal for your business cards in order to promote your own business.
Cost and registration

The cost of the Borrel is €12,50 per person. This will entitle you to three drinks plus appetizers. You are asked to pay this upon arrival, at the bar, for which you will receive tokens which you use to redeem your three drinks at the bar. Additional drinks are at your own cost.

Please make sure you register your attendance (either as a member or as a guest) via the
EPWN website http://europeanpwn-amsterdam.net/events/borrel-in-the-hague-april-17. Alternatively, you can send an email to Erika at erika@bothassistanceandsupport.nl.

!!!!!   Please also don’t forget to de-register if you are not able to make it after all!
We need to confirm the number of attendees with the restaurant 24 hours in advance.
Please let us know in advance if you are not able to come along.

When pre-registered people do not show up, this puts us in a difficult position, as the restaurant has prepared food for more people.

Directions to the venue
This location, Rootz at the Harbour (formerly ‘Braque’ and before that ‘Raar’) is located in the Scheveningen harbour, next to restaurant Waterproef;  the address is Dr. Lelykade 33-37, Den Haag. For more details about the venue, go to their website www.rootzharbour.nl. There is plenty of free parking.

If you are travelling by public transport, take tram #17 from Den Haag Centraal Station (richting Statenkwartier) and get off at the stop called Van Boetzelaerlaan. Or take tram #11 to the Duinstraat stop.

We are looking forward to seeing you all and to enjoying yet another inspiring networking evening!

What do we know about Global Warming?

Nov ’10

19:00

What do we really know and understand about global warming?

Oceangrapher Anna Farrenkopf will help us better understand what researchers know and help us put it into perspective. She’ll share wisdom from the 2009 Copenhagen Climate Conference.  This talk will be presented as part of the Connecting Women speakers series in Den Haag.

Do come to this presentation with all your questions about the weather, trading carbon credits or whether there’ll be too much or not enough water in 2020.

Time : 19:00 – 22.00

Address: Christus Triumfatorkerk, Juliana van Stolberglaan 154, Den Haag 2595 CL

Dr. Farrenkopf earned her Ph.D. in Chemical Oceanography funded in part under the auspices of the Joint Global Ocean Flux Study (JGOFS) – Initiative, she is a past-participant in the Hawaii Ocean Timeseries, and co-author of Bermuda Ocean Times Series research.

This talk was originally inspired by sharing a plenary session at a local high school Environmental Science Career Fair in Portland Oregon with local TV weatherman Matt Zafino. Variations of this talk have also been presented in Wilsonville Elementary school to an audience of eight year olds and at the July 2009 borrel in the Hague.

Anna was born on a small island north of Boston Massachusetts in the town of Rockport. She grew up tending to both award winning flower gardens and racing sailboats on the ocean. After completing herannafarrenkopf chemistry degree, beginning a Ph.D. in oceanography seemed a logical way to pursue applied environmental chemistry. Early during her masters work Anna was invited to participate in the Netherlands Indian Ocean Program (NIOP) sponsored by SOZ through Rijksuniversiteit Utrecht (present day NWO and Utrecht University).

Her award winning research enabled many world wide collaboration opportunities in exotic tropical and sub-tropical locations such as the Seychelles, Hawaii, Oman, Kenya, Pakistan and beyond. For her post-doctoral work Anna travelled to Portland Oregon where she worked with numerical modelers to validate their 3 D simulations with real-time chemical sensor data. Anna came to the Netherlands in 2002 to innovate instrumentation for environmental research.

Of course we know her as the EuropeanPWN-Amsterdam borrel coordinator who often finds herself in the exotic locations in and around Scheveningen Harbor! Anna’s passion beyond networking with business women is to inspire and encourage girls and boys in the subjects of science, engineering and mathematics.
