Workshop: What gets you Promoted and How Organisational Politics can
help further your Career’.
By Kathy Searcy

As women, we generally don’t understand what key areas to focus on in order to get promoted in large organisations. Research done by Catalyst Inc. has shown that, as women, we are as ambitious as men but there are several areas where we could be more effective.  In the first part of this workshop we will be talking about these key areas to getting you promoted (so that you can effectively  focus your energy), the second part is about understanding the organisational politics of large organisations to help further your career. Want to find out more? Then join us for this fun interactive workshop in June.

19.00 hrs  Networking

19.30 hrs  Interactive workshop: Effective Communication in Local and Intercultural Mentoring

by Eleonore Breukel

Take this opportunity to become an effective communicator in your mentoring relationship. You will learn how to structure your ‘own’ session, how to steer your conversation and how to give motivating feedback. You will ‘experience’ the difference between local mentoring and mentoring in an intercultural context. You will understand how culture influences communication and collaboration not only because of the nationality of the mentor or mentee but the whole environment: the industry, the profession, the corporate culture etc. In today’s’ virtual business world culture is not explicit and its complexity and uniqueness therefore not taken into consideration which often leads to unexpected situations.

Culture also affects the private situation and relationships of the mentee. Living in a  constant cultural mix may cause feelings of insecurity which affects the work performance.

Our mentoring pairs at EPWN are on many levels intercultural. Take this opportunity to practice and experience how you can weave strength from cultural differences to make your mentoring relationship successful and enjoyable.

Eleonore Breukel has been an intercultural organizational effectiveness consultant and trainer since 1994. This is the second of the mentoring group “zzp & entrepreneurs” workshops facilitated by Eleonore Breukel.

Judith Webber formerly of the zzp-adviescafe will facilitate the second in a series of group discussions.

Monday 4 October we have reserved Carmiggelt‐zaal in the Openbare Biblioteek Amsterdam (Oosterdokskade 143; 1011DL).  The Carmiggelt conference room is located on the 6th floor of the Library next door to Amstedam Central Station (across from the floating Chinese Restaurant).

Judith Webber

Judith’s core business www.purehuman.nl is to inspire entrepreneurs to show more of themselves to the world: especially the reason why you started your particular business, this says something about you! Customers choose you not only only for what you do; they choose you for who you are, and what you mean to them. “Entrepreneurship is connected to you as a person, it is impossible to separate it”, according to Judith.

In small groups she will inspire and stimulate you to help each other in what you find most difficult in your business. There is always someone there who is totally passionate about that piece.

Everybody leaves the room with new ideas and questions to work out later.

Judith is the author of “Laat jezelf zien” (show yourself) which will come into the market in October 2010.

—-Judiths’ new organization PureHuman www.purehuman.nl started as an idea which was born while talking to ZZP-ers at ZZP-Adviescafe.—-

How to become an inspiring mentor

Jun ’10

19:00

We started off the year with a fresh batch of mentors and mentees.  We had some excellent results.  New jobs have been landed.  Professional development in a present position and in a new business development are well on their way…

We’d like to welcome mentors, mentees and everyone interested in the mentoring process. Edith Punt will provide us with a mentoring model and invite mentors and mentees to discuss their mentoring progression and to provide insight to others considering becoming a mentor.  We will also start collecting mentor/mentee applications over the summer for our second round of matching to begin this fall.edith.punt

This workshop will be facilitated by EuropeanPWN-Amsterdam member Edith Punt.

In 1985 Edith started her career as a human resources consultant in Bangkok, Thailand. Upon her return to the Netherlands (1995) she initially worked as a trainer/consultant with a focus on appraisal systems (Breda). Later she joined an international headhunter in Amsterdam. In January 1999 she started her own agency in Amsterdam. Her services focus on diversity and crosscultural management. She applies different systems to make individuals aware of their preferred styles of behaviour and patterns in decision making, against the backdrop of organizational goals and team dynamics. Since January 2003 she operates from Zwolle.

Participants are welcome to network from 19:00 to 20:00. The program begins at 20:00.

Registration and Guest Policy: Registration is required for members (no charge) and guests (guests are welcome at a cost of 25 Euro which includes snacks and drinks). Guests are allowed to attend two EuropeanPWN-Amsterdam functions per year. Please contact Caroline van Leuven, our VP Membership.

Please keep in mind participation in the mentoring program is for MEMBERS ONLY.

Mentoring Program – About Matching

Dec ’09

The venue is arranged. Eleonore is flying back the day before. The website should be “ready” for show and tell…(sorry my html is a bit rusty and it’s taking a bit more time than I planned. I struggled for far too long yesterday on the Table of Contents – it’s almost done).

This is a member only event – so there is no guest registration.

Please join us at the Renaissance Hotel on 16 December for an overview of the mentoring program, to fill in your mentor/mentee profile, and to work toward your perfect mentoring match.

This year we also have a possibilty to work with other EuropeanPWN networks to share with their excess mentor’s & mentees. All kinds of new possibilities exist for 2010! Come hear about them.

Folks that pre-register will be sent a link to the new Mentoring workbook that we’ve been working on so you’ll have a chance to read up a bit before we begin on the 16th.

Anna’s also promised to bake some of her xmas cookies so save some room for dessert.

Gone already on the 16th – don’t worry. Send me an email and I’ll fill you in in January.

html wizards are also welcome to contact me to browse through my code to see what I missed first time round…
