How do I add an event?

1. Create an event in Etheryl like you normally do. Navigate to the event and keep it in one window/tab.

2. Log in to the WordPress CMS at by clicking ‘admin’ on the top menu.

3. On the left navigation menus, under Posts, click ‘Add New’.

4. Fill in the title. See http://www.grammarbook.com/punctuation/capital.asp for tips about how to capitalize your title in English.

5. Leave the content blank. This will be filled in from a link to Etheryl that you will add below.

6. Leave the excerpt field blank.

7. Add keywords from the content to the tags (upper right). Use all lower case. Tags with multiple words allowed. Separate tags with commas. See http://armchairtheorist.com/2008/05/22/top-10-tagging-best-practices-for-anything-web-20/ for tips on tagging.

8. Scroll down to the ‘Event Editor’ section. Click the ‘+’ button and add the date and times by the date picker pop-up (‘…’ button) or by typing them in.

9. The category is automatically set to ‘event’. If the event is a borrel or a workshop, additionally click the appropriate category (bottom right). In general, each post should only have one category, but ‘borrel’ and ‘workshop’ can be additional.

10. Go back to the Etheryl event and copy the uid from the URL (top of your browser).
e.g. http://www.etheryl.net/EPWN/calendar.mv?calname=grad&action=list_1&uid=20090422234300243&day=20090422
Copy the number after ‘uid=’ and before ‘&’.

11. Go to the Custom Fields section (middle). Do not click the ‘Add Custom Field’ button. Under Name, select ‘etheryl.uid’ and paste the uid from Step 9 in the Value field. This uid will allow WordPress to grab the event details from Etheryl as well as provide the info to create the ‘register as member’ and ‘register as guest’ links.

12. Click the ‘Save Draft’ button under Publish (right middle, under tags).

13. Go to the Custom Fields section. Do not click the ‘Add Custom Field’ button. Under the Name under ‘Add new custom field:’, select ‘speaker.name’ and in the Value field, put the speaker’s name in the follow format: firstname.lastname
If the event is a borrel, select “organizer.name” instead of “speaker.name” above.

14. Click the ‘Save Draft’ button or ‘Publish’ button, if you have the right to publish (right middle, under tags).

15. In another window or tab of your browser, go check how the post looks on the site using the permalink (under the title). Update if necessary.

16. Check the links for registering as a member, registering as a guest, and the speaker profile(s).
