Event Report: Innovative Leadership with Nancy McKinstry

24 June 2010 Posted by Rieke Smakman

Thanks again to all 90 participants, members and guests, who joined us to welcome and be inspired by Mrs. Nancy McKinstry, CEO of Wolters Kluwer.

Mrs. McKinstry shared how Wolters Kluwer, as a global, market-leading information services company is implementing innovation in its portfolio of products and services. We were honored to listen to Mrs. McKinstry, who has continuously been ranked among the most important woman in business, and her view on innovation at Wolters Kluwer as well as on innovative leadership.

A remarkable point of her speech, which definitely marks a highlight in our 2010 theme, was that an important aspect of innovation was to share it. Thanks to all of you for joining our event and for sharing your thoughts, experiences, and questions on innovative leadership. You can find the presentation under http://www.wolterskluwer.com/wk/Press/Presentations/2010

Our fellow member Cristina Stoian (www.crisspix.com) did an amazing job at capturing the evening on film. Please take two minutes (and 28 seconds) to enjoy the video presentation below.

Join us again next time!

Bloomberg Article: “French Women Storm the Corporate Boardroom”

Please take a few minutes to read Tara Patel’s (Bloomberg) article, referencing our fellow member Miriam Garnier of the Paris City Network.

The article starts as follows:

“A group of women wearing fake beards stormed the podium at Veolia Environnement’s crowded shareholders’ meeting in Paris last month, challenging Chairman Henri Proglio over the gender makeup of his overwhelmingly male board. “Is it really wise to allow women to define the strategy of a company, a task requiring intelligence, an ability to react, and coolheadedness?” asked a disguised member of the feminist advocacy group La Barbe, or “The Beard.” She taunted the French water utility for having only one woman on its 17-member board.”

The bottom line: French boardrooms have long been a male domain. A proposal requiring that at least 40 percent of directors be women could change that.

“In Sweden, the Men Can Have It All”

Take a look at today’s International Herald Tribune. Katrin Bennhold, one of IHT’s star journalists, went up to Umea and to Stockholm to find out if “Pappaledigheten”in Sweden really was something worth talking about and this is how she starts her story:

Mikael Karlsson owns a snowmobile, two hunting dogs and five guns. In his spare time, this soldier-turned-game warden shoots moose and trades potty-training tips with other fathers. Cradling two-month-old Siri in his arms, he can’t imagine not taking baby leave. “Everyone does.”

We started off the year with a fresh batch of mentors and mentees.  We had some excellent results.  New jobs have been landed.  Professional development in a present position and in a new business development are well on their way…

We’d like to welcome mentors, mentees and everyone interested in the mentoring process. Edith Punt will provide us with a mentoring model and invite mentors and mentees to discuss their mentoring progression and to provide insight to others considering becoming a mentor.  We will also start collecting mentor/mentee applications over the summer for our second round of matching to begin this fall.edith.punt

This workshop will be facilitated by EuropeanPWN-Amsterdam member Edith Punt.

In 1985 Edith started her career as a human resources consultant in Bangkok, Thailand. Upon her return to the Netherlands (1995) she initially worked as a trainer/consultant with a focus on appraisal systems (Breda). Later she joined an international headhunter in Amsterdam. In January 1999 she started her own agency in Amsterdam. Her services focus on diversity and crosscultural management. She applies different systems to make individuals aware of their preferred styles of behaviour and patterns in decision making, against the backdrop of organizational goals and team dynamics. Since January 2003 she operates from Zwolle.

The French Touch (Workshop I)

Jul

19:00

It starts with Brigitte Bardot, Catherine Deneuve, Vanessa Paradis, Marion Cotillard, and continues through the countless women you’ve seen in the streets of France.

How do these women master style? How do they combine effortless chic nicky.nargueswith their high sense of fashion? Trust us, it’s not that difficult. If 31 Million French women do it, so can you. That’s our promise to you.

French style is based on a number of rules and we will teach you everything you need to know about them in this 1h30 workshop. Bring your notebooks if you want, but remember, our lessons are fun!

In this workshop, you will learn how to:
- Find your style
- Know the clothes that fit you
- Mix and Match your clothes
- Accessorize
- Learn to watch others
- Shop smart
- Relax with your looks!

31 Million is a personal style consultancy that trains women on the ins and outs of French fashion whilst exposing them to the secrets of French style and nutrition. Our focus is to offer women in their 20’s to 50’s French style and nutrition lessons, organize for personal wardrobe consultations, arrange exclusive and fun Paris shopping trips, as well as provide a rental platform where women can gain access to French-styled clothing and accessories for any occasion.

31 Million started as a fun venture in Amsterdam, where Franco-Iranian Nicky Adle was missing the action of Paris shopping and decided to spread the word that French women don’t have more taste than others but simply dress and eat according to implicit rules that together constitute the French Touch. Raised in Paris, Nicky has been living in and out of France for the past 15 years, has never (ever!) shopped outside her hometown, or given up on her French eating habits. Like most Parisians, she knows the capital’s shops, current styles and future trends.

On weekdays Nicky is an INSEAD MBA graduate and internet entrepreneur, currently launching wondersale.nl, a promotions and discounts webshop that activates on key calendar dates such as Sinterklaas, Christmas, Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day.
